Locus of Indian commerce and cultural life in Singapore, Serangoon Road is the main thoroughfare through Little India. Indian immigrants settled along the one-time bridle path in the 1820s, grazing cattle and working the brick kilns. In recent years, new condominiums, shopping complexes, and a subway line have encroached on the arcades and shophouses that line this always-colorful road.
