Scooters weave through Bangalore's chaotic traffic on Mahatma Gandhi Road, known as South Parade in the days of the British Raj. With pot-holed roads too narrow for the traffic they bear, the city's exploding middle class--many recently returned from the United States or working in call centers serving multinational companies--adds nearly 1,000 new vehicles a day to overtaxed streets.
