Less
than six months after Iraqi forces invaded Kuwait, President
Bush and Secretary of State James Baker huddle in the Oval Office
as they compose a response to Seviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev,
who had requested a delay in U.S. action against Saddam Hussein.

assault. A few moments later Bush emerged and announced a 24-hour
ultimatum to Saddam. Two hours after the deadline passed, an
air war began - just in time for the evening news.
