On Goree Island, near Dakar, Senegal, the Clintons had stood in the doorway where slaves had boarded ships to leave for the colonies - the point of no return. Somehow I had to find a private moment there, since this dramatic visit had been recorded by the press. Luckily for me, as the President, seeming very moved by his experience there, sat to write his comments in the guest book, two participants in this visit, one from the slave museum, the other from the President's delegation, shook hands by chance in front of me.
