The Photographer's
Diary
Tibetan Hunger Strike |
A high lama from Dharamsala blessed Dawa Tsering. The colors of Tibetan Buddhism is a photographer’s dream. I marvel at the beautifully colored robes the religious leaders wear. Even though they had not eaten food for more than three weeks, the protesters seem remarkably strong. The only thing I ever see them take internally is water and "Tsampa," or fried barley that is burned and inhaled daily in the evening to strengthen the "inner wind." |
Three-hundred nuns from Dharamsala created quite a sight when they arrived in Jantar Mantar, the site of an ancient observatory and present-day tourist attraction in New Delhi. The procession of women seemed endless as they filed passed the striker's tent to pay their respects before setting up camp. Many, overcome by emotion, paused in front of the tent to pray for the safety of their fellow countrymen in exile. To feel their compassion is very moving. |
