Woman with a military hat, Moscow. When asked about her political opinions, she replied "No one's any good. Yeltsin's an alcoholic, Zhuganov (the Communist leader) is a goat, and Zherinovsky (the Nationalist leader) is a clown."

A young woman, Dina, in the countryside near Moscow.  Her ancestors were Russian nobility and owned the land where she now goes fishing. Their land was collectivized after the revolution but her family continued to live there as collective farmers. Now the best land is being privatized by the Moscow government to be sold to wealthy Russians for new dachas. Dina's family is being dispossessed a second time, losing access to the fields and water sources where they've lived for generations. Photograph by Robert Wallis
