After the Bombing

July 2, 1999 - Ethnic Albanian Kosovars
wave a flag and flash the V-sign as they sit
on the roof of a car during a street party
organized by university students to celebrate
NATO's victory over the armed forces of Serb
President Slobodan Milosevic. A British KFOR
helicopter, keeping an eye on the crowd, hovers
overhead. Hundreds marked the seventh
anniversary of republican declaration by the
leaders of the ethnic Albanians.

July 2, 1999 - Ethnic Albanians
yell at Serbs past French
policemen keeping them back
from a bridge in Mitrovica. Serbs
on the north side of the bridge in
Mitrovica refuse to allow
Albanians back to their homes
and have beaten some who have
crossed over. French KFOR
troops and police are now
keeping the two groups separate.
Kosovars will wait until Monday
for the two leading parties to
come to an agreement before
trying to storm the bridge, they
say.
