We do things that are in the best long-term interest in the land.  To me life is a gift and I am here to participate.  I guess if I was to leave something behind for the next seven generations, it would be that somebody could walk onto this farm and feel a spirit that was here, that maybe did some good, or was a good steward, and that would be plenty.

Tom Larson - St. Edward, Nebraska

I would describe my relationship to this land, this homestead,  I guess the one word would be steward.  The concept of ownership is not real important to me.  Ownership has elements of exclusion.  I would like to be more inclusive, especially with the consumer - people that are eating the the things I raise.  There are people that place the spiritual values ahead of the personal values and I think that's where I fit.  I think that is the long-term answer for sustainability.  If we place ourselves, number two, I think that's were we belong.  That fits our stewardship very well.
