This year has been the hardest year I have had on the farm. We've had freezes on the peaches, and then came the drought on the cattle, and then the dogs killed some of my calves.  These kind of years come. That doesn't discourage me.

I'm here because I'm part of the family farm.  I could have probably have done something else, but I came back and stayed here.  I really own this place and I know just about every hill and every hollow.  I know just about what every part of it will do, what the production is on it, whether anything ought to be planted, what pastures ought to be in pasture land, or ought to be in grassland.  I know all about it by being in the family so long, it's just a part of me.  I don't know what I would do without it now. I'm out here everyday.  I get up early in the morning, come straight here. I learned how to make a little profit here and there, to stay out here with it.

This land, I feel it is special to us because it came down from my grandfather, to my father and to us.  I enjoy the people out here.  I enjoy the contact with the customers and their calling and coming by.  I have lots of nice friends.  I think we should be interested in trying to do something with the farm, to make it go.  As far as the youngsters are concerned, I don't think any of them are interested...they don't want to work.  I don't see any future for the farm and I don't think my father would want us to sell.
